Rochester Man Is Accused Of Strangling A Steuben Co Deputy

FROM THE STEUBEN CO SHERIFF’S OFFICE: Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on July 16, 2026, Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Daniel L. Beal, age 57, of Edgecreek Trail, Rochester, New York, following an investigation into a reported fight/domestic incident in Wayland, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Beal assaulted another person and forcibly stole money from that person. It is further alleged that Mr. Beal resisted his lawful arrest, assaulted the Deputy attempting to arrest him, strangled that deputy and then attempted to run from the scene. Mr. Beal is charged with Assault in the First Degree, a class B Felony, Strangulation in the First Degree, a class C Felony, Robbery in the Second Degree, a class C Felony, Assault in the Third Degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration. Mr. Beal was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
The victim of the alleged robbery was transported to a local medical facility for treatment. The Deputy Sheriff was transported to a local medical facility for treatment and has since been released.
Sheriff Allard thanks the New York State Police and the Springwater-Wayland EMS for their assistance and intervention into the assault of the Deputy Sheriff.
