HORNELL-Ruby A. Flanders, 93, of Hornell, passed away Monday evening (Sept. 21, 2015) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell.
Born in North Hornell on May, 20, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Hardy and Grace Higgins Karns. On Dec. 31, 1941, she was married to Theodore H. “Ted” Flanders, who predeceased her on Jan. 10, 1997. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her grandson, Theodore Scott Flanders and her three brothers, Harold, Edgar and Earl Karns.
A former resident of Arkport, Ruby resided on the Big Creek Road in the Town of Fremont for more than 50 years before moving to Hornell in 1995.
She was employed by the Hornell City School District as a cafeteria associate at the Hornell Senior High School for 17 years, retiring in 1994.
Ruby was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem as well as the Arkport and Southern Tier Senior Citizens.
Her loving family includes her three daughters, Marjorie (Walter) Sackett of Lima, N.Y., Connie (Patrick) Terry of Florida and Candace (Martin) Hogan of Hornell; her four sons, Ted L. (Barbara) Flanders of Las Vegas, Nev., Dr. Thomas (Katherine) Flanders of Delhi, N.Y., Timothy (Diane) Flanders of Williamson, N.Y. and Chris (Wendy) Flanders of Florida; her 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald (Joyce) Karns of Arkport; also her nieces and nephews.

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held in Ruby’s memory at the convenience of her family at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Interment will follow at the Howard Cemetery.
