Sandra “Sam” Bush, of Canisteo

CANISTEO-Sandra “Sam” Bush, 62, of 43 West Academy Street, passed away Wednesday evening (September 3, 2014) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Marion, OHIO, July 26, 1952, the daughter of John and Barbara Brinkman Creasap, she had resided in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as Susquehanna and Meadville, Pennsylvania prior to moving to Canisteo in 1979.

Sam was a graduate of Meadville High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, and her Masters degree from Elmira College. Sam was a teacher in the Canisteo Central School District and was instrumental in the formation of the Special Education Department in the district. Due to ill health, she retired about four years ago after serving the district for 35 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canisteo, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canisteo American Legion Post.

She was predeceased by her father, John Creasap.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Bush to whom she was married on December 29, 1973, her mother, Barbara Creasap of North Carolina, two daughters, Jennifer (Robert Greeley Jr.) Bush of Hornell and Kimberly (Willis Holbrook) Bush of Hornell, one son, Matthew (Ann) Bush of Virginia, three sisters, Sue (John Hennon) Creasap of Kentucky, Sharon (Dennis) Watt of Georgia and Shelley (Shane) Hoyt of North Carolina, three grandchildren, Tyler Greeley, Darwin Bush and Emily Holbrook, nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce Street, Canisteo. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Canisteo First United Methodist Church 37 Greenwood Street, Canisteo with the Rev. Beverly Welch officiating.
