Schick Family Golf Tournament Brings In Over $5100 For St James

August 28, 2019

Statement From St James Hospital:

Hornell, NY… Friends, community supporters, and members of Hornell’s Shick family gathered at Hornell Golf Club on June 28 for a day of golf and fun… and raised $5,159 for the St. James Foundation. The tournament proceeds will be used to support the St. James Capital Campaign to benefit the new hospital construction project.

This year’s tournament – the family’s fifth – has once again raised more than each of the previous years. Initially, a different community organization was chosen as the beneficiary each year; however in 2017 family members shared the news that the St. James Foundation would benefit from the family’s 2018 and 2019 tournaments as well.

At the August 23, 2019 check presentation, the Shick family made an outstanding commitment to St. James by pledging another $10,000 to the St. James Capital Campaign from the 2020 and 2021 Shick Family Charity Golf Tournaments. Along with this commitment comes the naming rights to the Administration Suite at the new hospital to honor William and Anita Shick.

“Because of our long history with St. James, going back to Mom’s sister who was part of the first graduating class of the St. James School of Nursing, our family unanimously made the decision to support St. James in the best way we could…through our Shick Family Charity Golf Classic,” said Becky Shick. “St. James Hospital’s dedication to the healthcare of our community is clear, and we are all looking forward to seeing the plaque in honor of our parents when the newly constructed hospital opens in March of 2020.”

The Shick Family Charity Golf Classic was founded as a way to have fun and give back, as well as to honor matriarch Anita Shick, who has proudly led the family since the passing of her husband, William D. Shick, in 1974 at the age of 45. Four generations of the Shick family attended the check presentation. Anita was joined by her daughters Becky, Martha Wraight, and Judy Harris; son Matt, and grandson Joe Shick; and Judy’s granddaughter, Makayla Bell.
