Local School Merger Update

January 9, 2014

ARKPORT, NY – The Arkport Board of Education met last night and announced plans for a public meeting on the proposed merger at the Alfred-Alfred Central School auditorium on January 30 at 6pm.

The three schools that may go in together on a merger are Arkport, Canaseraga, and Alfred-Almond.

Arkport School Board President Stephen Hoyt said that most seem positive about the proposal adding that he feels that this may give the students better opportunities and that a merger will ultimately be better for the students. Arkport Central superintendent Glenn Niles says Common Core at Arkport is making great progress, noting that teachers are actually seeing an uptake on reading ability at this point, however he noted that the final analysis will come at the end of the year, but the midterm benchmark will show that they are making great progress.
