Senator O’Mara Responds To NY Times Story

May 15, 2017

ALBANY, NY – State Senator Tom O’Mara issued a statement today, regarding the NY Times story about him:

“Senate counsel has stated that Senate stipends are allocated in full accordance with Senate rules, state law and the state Constitution, and have been approved by the state Comptroller.
The leadership has appointed me to serve as Chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, and as a member on seven additional Senate committees and three Senate task forces.
The leadership is authorized to assign a stipend in accordance with these assignments. I do not receive a stipend in my role as Chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee. I do receive a stipend as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, a committee chairmanship assignment which I believe was made by Senator Flanagan reflective of my efforts over the past several years on behalf of local roads and bridges, and Upstate New York infrastructure.”
