September 25th: 15 More Cases In Steuben County

BATH – The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 15 Steuben County residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total to 425 confirmed cases, 79 of which are currently active. The individuals are residents of the:
• City of Corning (7)
• Town of Campbell
• Town of Caton
• Town of Erwin
• Village of Addison (3)
• Village of Bath
• Village of Painted Post
The individuals are isolated and being monitored by the County Health Department. Public Health staff investigated and identified close contacts of the confirmed cases and exposure risks. All those known to have direct contact with the individuals have been notified.
Per CDC and New York State Department of Health guidance, information is collected beginning 48 hours prior to symptom onset or date of test if asymptomatic through the day of the positive test result to identify any potential exposure risks.
The investigations indicate:
• Eight individuals are employees of Corning Center
• Two individuals had contact with Chemung County positives
• One individual had contact with a previously reported Steuben positive
• One individual had contact with Corning Centers residents
• One individual is an employee of GST BOCES and has visited the following school districts: Bath, Hammondsport, Jasper-Troupsburg, Prattsburgh, and Phoenix Academy on the BOCES Bush Campus
Public Health has worked together with the indicated school districts. Staff and students who are found to have direct contact with the positive student will be quarantined. School-related questions should be directed to the appropriate district.
The individuals reported visited the following locations within the investigation timeframe:
• 9/15/20 – 9/19/20 – Journey 333 in Corning
• 9/17/20 – 9/18/20 – Ready, Set, Grow Child Care Center in Corning
• 9/17/20 – CASA-Trinity in Elmira
• 9/18/20 Afternoon – Arnot Mall in Big Flats: Burlington, JCPenney, Pookie’s Little Britches, The Children’s Place
• 9/18/20 and 9/19/20 Late Morning – Planet Fitness in Horseheads
• 9/19/20 Late Morning – Walmart in Painted Post
• 9/19/20 Afternoon – Sam’s Club in Big Flats
• 9/19/20 Afternoon – Big Lots in Painted Post
• 9/20/20 Early Morning – Tops in Bath
• 9/21/20 and 9/22/20 Morning – YMCA in Corning
• 9/21/20 Afternoon – Fastrac in Riverside
• 9/22/20 Afternoon – Wegmans in Corning
• 9/22/20 Afternoon – Tops in Riverside
• 9/22/20 Afternoon – Craig Park Dark Park in Painted Post
• 9/23/20 Afternoon – Willowcreek Golf Club Pro Shop
“Free testing will be available at the Victory Highway Wesleyan Church in Painted Post tomorrow, September 26 from 10 am – 5 pm,” said Public Health Director, Darlene Smith. “COVID-19 is rapidly spreading and has far-reaching impact.”
All residents should continue to monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills or repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell and contact their healthcare provider for instructions if feeling ill.
