Sheila L. Marlatt, of Canisteo

CANISTEO: Sheila L. Marlatt, 82, of State Route 36 passed away Saturday morning (April 21, 2018) at the home of her daughter Michaeleen and Donald McCaig on Merring Rd. in the town of Rathbone, after courageous battle with cancer.

Sheila was born June 30, 1935 in Canisteo, to Charles and Lillian (Lane) Butler. On January 16, 1954 in Canisteo, she married Clayton E. Marlatt who predeceased her in August of 2003. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Tasha Carson, a brother, Richard Butler and a sister, Elnora Sawczyszyn

Sheila had worked for many years at the former Loohns’ Cleaners on Seneca Rd. in Hornell. She had also worked at the former Westinghouse Company in Bath and former Corbins manufacturing in Hornell. Sheila enjoyed watching her children play sports through the years as well as watching the activities of her grandchildren. She loved the company of her family and friends especially around Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holidays. Sheila also enjoyed local race car racing at Woodhull Raceway, Dundee, Five Mile Point, Little Valley, Batavia and Smethport, Pa. where she watched her son and grandson race. Sheila also enjoyed watching sled dog racing, especially the “Iditarod”.

Sheila is survived by a son, Richard “Rich” Marlatt (Cathy Baker) of Canisteo, a daughter, Michaeleen (Donald) McCaig of Woodhull, 5 grandchildren, Kyle Carson, Brett Marlatt, Jeremy Carson, Julie Marlatt and Rachel Raish. One great granddaughter Summer Carson and special friend and former daughter-in-law, Sheila Marlatt of Canisteo and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place Thursday at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
