Sheriff Allard: The Boater Safety Classes Are Paying Off

July 28, 2025

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard says, since the county sheriff’s office has been increasing the number of boater safety classes over the past 18 months, there has been a noticeable decrease in boating collisions.

The sheriff maintains, these classes are something he hears good things about. “I’ve had a few people send me texts commenting and complimenting us for the boater safety courses,” Allard said. “They sometimes complimment us on the knowledge of the instructors. I have yet to meet somebody who has gone through these classes who has not learned at least one thing new,” Allard tells WLEA News.

The next two day boater safety classes is scheduled for August 18/19.
