The New York State Police in Hornell announce the arrest of Markiest D. Hartfield, age 30, of Rochester, NY, following a domestic dispute that led to a vehicle crashing into the Aldi’s grocery store in the town of Hornellsville.
On October 22, 2025, at approximately 3:45 a.m., Troopers were dispatched to Seneca Road North in the town of Hornell for a report of a physical domestic dispute. While en route, Troopers were advised that the male suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.
Moments later, Troopers were redirected to Aldi’s grocery store at 1191 County Route 66 after receiving reports of a vehicle that had crashed into the building. Upon arrival, Troopers located a 2024 Jeep that had gone through the exterior brick wall of the store and was resting on its driver’s side. The vehicle was unoccupied.
A short time later, troopers located and detained a male matching the suspect’s description near the scene. The individual was identified as Markiest D. Hartfield.
Hartfield was evaluated by EMS and determined to have no injuries. The vehicle was removed from the scene.
Further investigation revealed that the domestic incident involved two victims at the Seneca Road North residence.
Hartfield was arrested and charged with:
- Two counts of Assault 3rd (A Misdemeanor)
- Criminal Mischief 4th (A Misdemeanor)
- Reckless Driving (Unclassified Misdemeanor)
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd (Unclassified Misdemeanor)
Hartfield was processed at SP Hornell and transported to the Steuben County Jail for CAP arraignment.
