FROM GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL: “Officer Didarul Islam represented the very best of New York. An immigrant from Bangladesh, he joined the NYPD to protect his city — and gave his life doing so. He leaves behind a wife, two young sons and a third child on the way. We hold his family in our prayers.”
FROM THE NYSP: “We join the NYPD and all of New York in mourning the tragic loss of Police Officer Didarul Islam, who died in the line of duty. Officer Islam, a 36-year-old husband and father from the 47th Precinct, was a 3½-year veteran of the NYPD. He leaves behind his wife, two young sons, and a child on the way. This devastating incident also claimed the lives of three innocent civilians. Our hearts are with all the families affected.
