The Hornell Steamers used an eight-run 4th inning to race to 12-2 victory over the Olean Oilers on Saturday. The Steamers have now won four straight and improved to 8-5 on the year.
Olean got on the board in the 1st when Jason Story hit a sacrifice fly before Hornell answered back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. Brody Langlotz (Gulf Coast State) collected a RBI single and came around to score on a wild pitch.
In the 3rd, Rustin Pope (Coastal Alabama North CC) collected a sac fly to make it 3-1.
Chase Fischer hit a homer to right in the 4th to cut it to 3-2 but the Steamers used a big bottom of the inning to put the game away. Jackson Legg (LSU Eunice) hit a RBI double and scored on a throwing error. Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) followed with a RBI double of his own, Jeremy Yanow (Webster) collected a two-run double, and Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian) capped the inning with a bases-clearing three-run triple to right.
In the 7th, Yanow ended the contest with a hot shot single down the third base line to make it 12-2.
Dupuy was 3 for 4 with a RBI, McLin was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, and Yanow was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Langlotz and Dailey were also 2 for 4. Every Steamer starter collected a hit.
Mason McClurg (Finger Lakes CC) was solid on the mound to earn his second win. He pitched 6.1 innings of three-hit ball. He allowed two earned runs while walking and striking out four.
The Steamers travel to Salamanca on Sunday for a 7 p.m. game with the Lizards*. This is a change from the original schedule as there are thunderstorms predicted for most of the day.
