Steamers Win Again Last Night

July 8, 2022

Joe Dolansky (Indiana U of PA) tossed a complete game gem as the Hornell Steamers defeated the Dansville Gliders 4-2 to run their winning streak to eight games.
Dolansky and Glider starter James Ferioli both were on their game.
Hornell took advantage of a two-out walk and an error to get things going in the 3rd. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Paxton Hughes (Trevecca Nazarene) hit a RBI single to right. Jordyn Smith (Oklahoma Wesleyan) followed with a two run single to make it 3-0.
In the 6th, Hornell took advantage of another error to expand their lead. Torrey Roper (Indiana U of PA) cashed in the run on a RBI groundout.
The Gliders made it interesting in the 8th when they collected three of their four hits on the day off of Dolansky. Jackson Johns made it 4-2 with a two-RBI double. Dolansky was able to get the final two outs of the inning to keep the two run lead.
Dolansky retired the Gliders 1-2-3 on seven pitches in the 9th inning to close out his complete game victory.
Dolansky allowed just four hits and two earned runs. He walked one and struck out six.
Ferioli pitched 6.1 innings and allowed four hits and no earned runs. He walked a pair and struck out three.
Hornell is back in action tomorrow when they host Olean in a 3 p.m. matinee. The Steamer game will be followed by a charity softball game between the Hornell Police and Hornell Fire starting at 7 p.m.
