The Hornell Steamers won their second straight and sent home over 600 students home happy with a 12-7 win over Dansville in their annual Kids Day game. Hornell is now 3-3 on the season.
Hornell started quickly. Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian) doubled on the first pitch. A few batters later, Cooper Dailey (Delgado CC) scored on an errant pickoff attempt and Brody Langlotz (Gulf Coast CC) delivered a two-RBI double to make it 3-0.
The game remained 3-0 until the 4th when Dansville collected their only lead of the game. Justin Colpack connected on a two-out, three run home run to left center to tie it and Gaines Harrell followed with a solo homer to left to make it 4-3.
Hornell took back the lead for good in the 5th. Dailey walked, Jackson Legg (LSU Eunice) doubled, and Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a pitching change. Langlotz delivered a two-run single to make it 5-4. Finn Ellis (U of Charleston) followed with a RBI single.
The Steamers put the game out of reach in the 6th when they took advantage of five walks and two hit by pitches. They plated five runs to make it 11-4.
Cooper Berry collected a RBI groundout in the 7th for Dansville and McLin hit a RBI single in the 8th to make it 12-5.
Dansville plated a pair in the 9th and had the bases loaded when Tre Slawson (Alfred State) recorded the final out of the game.
Langlotz was 3 for 4 with 4 RBI while Legg was 2 for 4 and McLin was 2 for 5. Eli Fuselier (Nunez CC) earned the win with five innings of work. He allowed four earned runs while walking two and striking out three. Danik Reed (Nunez CC) and Slawson each pitched two innings out of the bullpen.
Russell Golembe and Harrell were each 2 for 4 for the Gliders (3-3).
The Steamers host the Salamanca Lizards this evening at 7 p.m. The game is the annual Books and Baseball event. Local librarians will have baseball books to give away to students as we head into summer break. Gates open at 6 p.m.
