Stephen M. Davis, formerly of Hornell

  Grove City, Pa./Hornell-Stephen M. Davis, 56, of Grove City, Pa., formerly of Hornell, passed away Monday evening (Sept. 18, 2017) at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., after a courageous battle with cancer.

  Born in Hornell on Sept. 3, 1961, he was a son of Leo A. and Doris E. (McCollumn) Davis.

  A graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1980. Steve also attended Corning Community College and received a bachelor’s degree in social work from SUNY Brockport. He was a former resident of Rochester where he was employed for 22 years at St. Joseph’s Villa. Since 2011 he has resided in Grove City Pa. where he was employed as counselor for George Junior Republic.

  Steve was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was also a sports enthusiast and enjoying football and baseball and was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Rams. At one time, he coached Babe Ruth baseball for A.L. Blades in Hornell.

  His loving family includes his parents, Leo and Doris Davis of Hornell; his three brothers, James Davis of Hornell, David (Apryl) Davis of Honeoye Falls and Robert Davis of Mercer, Pa.; his two sisters, Kathryn (Michael) Pavloff of St. Louis, Missouri and Dorie (Michael) Landreth of Avoca; he was a loving uncle to his 10 nieces and nephews, Daniel (Hannah) Kerr, Megan Kerr, Jacqueline (Adam) Eason and Emily (Tylor) Ormsby, Jennifer (Nicholas) Hartsock, Kathryn (Bobby) Schlick and Rebecca (Patrick) Roobol, Noelle Davis, Emma Davis and Natalie Davis. He is also survived by, Lynn (Watt) Davis of Rochester, who he married in 1989; as well as several cousins.

  Steve was predeceased by his son, Tyler Davis in 2013 and his brother, Harold Davis in 2010.

  The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Stephen M. Davis.

  Calling hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 2 p.m. Saturday. Following the service everyone is invited to attend a celebration of Steve’s life at 4142 Shorewood Dr., Hammondsport (Waneta Lake).
