From Steuben Co Spokesman Eddie VanStine: The Steuben County Legislature has officially proclaimed July 19-25, 2026, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week, recognizing the dedicated professionals who work every day to strengthen public safety, support rehabilitation, and improve outcomes for individuals and families throughout the county.
The proclamation acknowledges the essential role that Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Services play within the justice system. These professionals help promote community safety while providing individuals with the guidance, supervision, and resources necessary to successfully reintegrate into society.
Steuben County’s Probation Department works collaboratively with courts, law enforcement agencies, treatment providers, victims’ advocates, and numerous community organizations to reduce recidivism, encourage accountability, and connect individuals with services that foster long-term success.
The Legislature also recognized the department’s highly trained staff, noting that Steuben County is fortunate to have more than 30 dedicated professionals committed to serving the community with integrity, compassion, and professionalism.
In addition to supervising individuals involved in the justice system, Probation Department staff play an important role in protecting children through investigations, family support services, and permanency planning. Their work often extends beyond enforcement by helping connect families with critical resources and interventions that improve lives and strengthen communities.
“These professionals perform challenging work each day that often goes unseen by the public,” said Craig Pomplas, Steuben County Probation Director. “Their commitment to accountability, rehabilitation, and public safety makes a meaningful difference in our communities. We are grateful for their service and proud to recognize their contributions during Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week.”
