Steuben Dept of Public Works, Announces Weight Limit Posting on McChesney Road Bridge in Canisteo
Canisteo, NY – December 22, 2025 – Eric Rose, Commissioner of the Steuben County Department of Public Works, announced today that a weight limit has been officially posted on the McChesney Road bridge spanning the Canisteo River in the Town of Canisteo.
Bridge No. 07-07-01 (BIN 2216630), located on McChesney Road between County Route 119 and Matt Dickey Road, has been posted with a maximum weight limit of 18 tons. The posting is being implemented in accordance with Section 234 of the New York State Highway Law to ensure public safety and protect the structural integrity of the bridge.
“This action is a proactive step to safeguard motorists and preserve critical infrastructure,” said Commissioner Eric Rose. “Posting appropriate weight limits is an important part of responsible bridge management, particularly for structures that serve both local residents and emergency services.”
Residents, commercial operators, and emergency service providers are encouraged to plan alternate routes for vehicles exceeding the posted weight limit.
