Local amateur radio club prepares for yearly event

Field Day is an annual amateur radio exercise, widely sponsored by IARU regions and member organizations, encouraging emergency communications preparedness among amateur radio operators. In the United States, it is typically the largest single emergency preparedness exercise in the country, with over 30,000 operators participating each year. Field Day is always the fourth full weekend of June.

The Keuka Lake Amateur Radio Association will be participating in the event along with other Ham Radio operators across the United States on Saturday June 25th through Sunday June 26th.

It is another opportunity to show our fellow earthlings that we can deal with emergencies and disasters. The object of Field Day is to work as many stations as possible on the 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 Meter HF bands, as well as all bands 50 MHz and above, and in doing so to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. A premium is placed on developing skills to meet the challenges of emergency preparedness as well as to acquaint the general public with the capabilities of Amateur Radio.

This year’s Field Day will begin at 2:00 PM on, Saturday, June 25 thru 2:00 PM Sunday, June 27. This years location will be at The Hammonsport Fire Station on route 54, Hammondsport, NY. The public is invited to visit the event and see what Amateur “Ham” Radio is all about.
