BATH, NY – Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler tells Wlea News, that the hospitals in Steuben County continue to be very, very busy, as are hospitals across the region and state. “Just pointing out that all of our counterparts, really throughout Western New York, the Finger Lakes and Central New York, really – across the state, we are seeing case rates and more importantly hospitalization rates that we haven’t seen since our peak of last January,” Wheeler said. “Our hospitals are very busy. We’re in constant communication with them, Bryan O’Donovan and his team over at St. James have been just tremendous. They’ve highlighted just how much pressure that they are under, based on Covid and other serious illness issues. People have to be seen/admitted, so it’s not just in their emergency room but also in their hospital units.”
Wheeler points out that it’s not just the Canisteo Valley area, which is experiencing this. “That’s not just a Hornell issue. We are seeing this across the county and across the region.”
