The Steuben County Public Safety Committee meets next Monday. One item they will be discussing then, is getting the payment for school resource officers who work at schools in this county, up to $50,000 a year. According to Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler, the current average salary for school resource officer is $45,000 a year. He also says that state has relaxed those caps in recent years, so the county has been giving raises accordingly. The county manager also says, the county only hires retired police officers for these positions.
