Steuben County Officials And Albany I.D.A. Reforms

May 28, 2024

BATH, NY – Steuben County Legislative Chair Kelly Fitzpatrick (R, Bath) says that the county legislature and the Steuben County IDA are pushing back against the state lawmakers in Albany who want to pass a law so local and county Industrial Development Agencies have to follow state rules on who they pick to be on IDA Boards. “We want the local/county IDA boards to be able to pick the most appropriate members,” Fitzpatrick tells WLEA News. “In places where it’s appropriate to place a school superintendent on an IDA Board, that’s one thing. Our IDA’s in Steuben County are more interested in manufacturing, jobs and helping the local economy. Also, I don’t think that the state should be able to dictate who gets to come on to IDA boards, and who doesn’t,” Fitzpatrick said this morning.

Some changes to IDAs statewide, are being pushed by State Senator Sean Ryan (D, Buffalo) and Harry Bronson (D, Rochester). State Teachers union NYSUT supports IDA reform as well.
