July 22, 2023

STEUBEN COUNTY, NY – District Attorney Brooks Baker tells WLEA News that recently, a male suspect walked into St. James Hospital and shot himself in the neck. Baker says that the suicidal male survived, but was discovered to have a note on him, indicating that he wanted to/was planning on making political assassinations. “Right now, we are in the infancy of the investigation,” Baker tells WLEA. “Monday morning, we will be meeting with New York State Police, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and others, to discuss whether this will proceed as a criminal investigation, or if if it a mental health issue.”

Baker also said, the Federal Bureau Of Investigation and the Secret Service are involved in this investigation.

WLEA also spoke with Hornell Mayor John Buckley. “All I can say publicly is that this person is not from Hornell and the incident did not happen in Hornell,” Buckley told WLEA.

Wlea will be reporting on this after the Monday meeting, to let you know more, when more is made public.
