Suspect Gets 17 Years After Pleading Guilty In Steuben County Court

December 12, 2024

In June 2020, a Corning man, Joe Early, was beaten to death with a hammer. Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker says the suspect, 55 year old Brenda Lee McKay, pleaded guilty in October to Manslaughter in the First Degree and was sentenced yesterday by Judge Watches. McKay was given 17 years in prison by Judge Watches.

Family members spoke to her, at the end of the trial. “Two of Mr. Early’s sons spoke at sentencing,” Baker said. “They gave very powerful statements about their father, who was a World War II Veteran and 100 years old when he was murdered. She also spoke and expressed her sorrow and apologies to the family.”
