The Mission House in Friendship will continue to be on call as a warming center this week due to several days of anticipated near-zero degrees morning windchills, including significant winds on Monday which could result in isolated downed tree limbs and power outages.
The facility, at the former site of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, offices and rectory, is a missions outreach center of the What God is Doing in Friendship ny alliance of churches.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is forecasting the cold weather will break next week with potential for warmer-than-normal temperatures for much of February.
Living room-style chairs and a sofa are at the former rectory, along with office-type space with a table and chairs which can be used with internet access for those who bring laptops or tablets. Free snacks and food also will be available during applicable hours.
Telephone reservations, available on an as-needed basis, may be made at (585) 973-1013.
Weekly community prayer, with refreshments following, also occur at The Mission House at 8:30AM Thursdays, except on the first week of the month, when they are scheduled in front of Friendship Central School, or the Bible Baptist Church, across the street at 43 West Main Street, in event of inclement weather.
The facility is handicapped accessible, with parking in the rear of the complex.
Further information is available at WhatGodisDoing@outlook.com or (585) 664-9989.
Warming centers also are available at most Allegany County libraries during normal business hours on days they are open.
