FROM THE SIERRA CLUB AND THE AARON GIES FOR CONGRESS CAMPAIGN: The Sierra Club, the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, today endorsed Aaron Gies for Congress in New York’s 23rd Congressional District, citing his commitment to protecting public health, building a clean and sustainable future, and putting the well-being of communities ahead of corporate profits.
“The Sierra Club enthusiastically endorses Aaron Gies for NY-23,” said Mary Campbell, Sierra Club Finger Lakes Group Political Committee Chair. “Aaron will fight for a clean and sustainable environment and put our health above Big Oil or Big Tech (AI data center) profits.”
Gies said environmental policy is ultimately about whether people can live healthy, affordable lives in their own communities.
“The environment isn’t something separate from our everyday lives. It is the air our kids breathe, the water our families drink, the land our farmers depend on, and the communities we call home,” said Aaron Gies. “We should be building an economy that gives people good jobs and affordable energy without asking them to sacrifice their health or the places they love. I’m proud to have the Sierra Club’s support, and I’ll work in Congress to make sure the common good comes before corporate profits.”
The endorsement adds to growing support for Gies from organizations representing working people, community members, and advocates across NY-23. His campaign has centered on making a good life affordable for families throughout the Southern Tier and Western New York, including by investing in communities, protecting workers, and ensuring that economic development improves quality of life for the people who live there.
“NY-23 has some of the most beautiful forests, farms, waterways, and rural communities in New York,” Gies said. “Protecting these places and protecting the health of the people who live here should not be partisan issues. They are part of what it means to look out for one another.”
