There are three days left in early voting: today Saturday and Sunday. Hours are 9am to 5pm at the Hornell Community Arts Center. The official election day is Tuesday November 5th. Here is a reminder of some of the races: as you know, Prop 1 has gotten a lot of attention. It’s called the Equal rights amendment. Democrats say it protects abortion and protects people from discrimination over gender and race. Republicans say it’s going to open the doors to boys going into girls locker rooms and younger teens getting gender transition procedures.
In local races, there’s a Hornell Common Council race in the 9th ward, in Canisteo there is a town justice race and a town clerk race. In Hartsville there’s a town supervisors race and a town highway superintendent’s race.
There are also two state supreme court races.
There is a local assembly race between republican Joe Sempolinski and Democrat Dan Brown. There are two congressional races in Steuben County – GOP Congressman Nick Langworthy and Democrat opponent Tom Carle are running in the 23rd congressional district. Also in Steuben County several towns are in the new 24th congressional district. That’s a race between Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney and the Democrat candidate David Waggenhauser.
Steuben County also has a race for sheriff – Sheriff Jim Allard is running unopposed.
Finally, there is a race for county and family court judge. that’s between Matthew McCarthy (R) and Michaela Rossetti Azemi (D).
