Assault with a Weapon, Kidnapping, Reckless Endangerment Arrest
Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on August 13, 2021, deputies and investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested James B. Hilligus, age 47, of Reeds Corners Road, Dansville, New York, following an investigation from August 12, 2021 in the Town of Bath.
It is alleged that Mr. Hilligus threatened, held and transported another person against their will, assaulted another person with a knife and crowbar and acted in a manner which recklessly endangered another person. The person allegedly assaulted received medical treatment both at the scene and at a local medical facility and was later released. Mr. Hilligus was charged with three counts of Assault in the Second Degree, a class D Felony, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a class D Felony and Kidnapping in the Second Degree, a class B Felony. Mr. Hilligus was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
