FROM NYSP: On May 7, 2024, at 2:16 P.M., Troopers out of SP Amity responded to a two-vehicle collision on State Route 275 in the town of Wirt. Investigation determined that a 2012 Ford Escape was traveling north bound on State Route 275 and entered the south bound lane striking a 2024 Hyundai head-on. The operator of the Ford, Michael R. Coats, 48 of Bolivar, NY was pronounced deceased at the scene. The occupants of the Hyundai had no to minor injuries. An autopsy has been scheduled at Olean General Hospital.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Investigation assisted in this investigation.
