FROM NSYP: The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in SP Geneseo report the arrest of an incarcerated individual, following an investigation into an assault at Groveland Correctional Facility. The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in SP Geneseo report the arrest of an incarcerated individual, following an investigation into an assault at Groveland Correctional Facility. On February 3, 2025, at approximately 12:25 a.m., an investigation determined that Austin A. Miles, age 31, an inmate at the facility, allegedly attacked a correction officer at an officer’s station. The suspect reportedly concealed his identity before jumping over the desk and striking the officer, causing multiple injuries. The officer sustained visible injuries and was transported for medical evaluation and treatment. The investigation, which included review of body-worn camera footage and witness interviews, identified Austin as the individual responsible for the attack.
Following a review by the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office, Miles was indicted by a grand jury on March 4, 2026. On March 24, 2026, Austin Miles was transported to SP Geneseo, where he was processed without incident on the following charges:
* Assault 2nd degree: Injure Person While Confined in a Correctional Facility (D felony)
* Assault 2nd degree: Intent to Cause Injury to a Police/Peace Officer (D felony)
* Assault on a Peace Officer (C felony)
Miles was returned to the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and is scheduled to appear in Livingston County Court at a later date. The New York State Police were assisted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office.
