Trump Picks Anti-Common Core South Carolina Education Leader

October 4, 2017

Education Weekly reports that President Donald Trump has chosen Mick Zais to be the #2 department of education leader. Education Weekly noted that Zais is said to have a strong anti-common core sentiment. According to Education Eeekly, Zais, who used to be the former South Carolina chief state school officer was also a big-time supporter of school choice when he worked in South Carolina. He championed the expansion of charter schools and other school-choice programs, including a tax-credit scholarship program for special-needs students.

Education Weekly also says Zais will also fit right into U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’ push for more local control.
