Update At HHS, From The DOT On Their Plans For Route 36

May 1, 2024

The DOT held a Route 36 Corridor Project public meeting, that was last night at Hornell High School. Two years ago, the Department of Transportation was planning for several roundabouts on Route 36. However, under the current plan, it’s just one roundabout they’re looking at doing. That is planned for the Webbs Crossing Road area, near Simmons Rockwell. DOT officials say a roundabout there, they believe, is the best option for vehicle and pedestrian safety. They say that’s because of speeding drivers in that area.

The DOT plans for the Hornell Plaza are to make it so there’s only one left turning lane instead of two left turning lanes, when you’re going into the plaza, by McDonalds.

The DOT also wants to have an additional entrance to get to Wegmans, so drivers will be able to get into the Wegmans area of the Hornell Plaza if they’re heading towards Arkport on 36 North.

There would be wider multi purpose paths, for both bikes and people walking…and the DOT also says they have plans for an intersection on Cass Street in Hornell…
