Update On Delay In Hearing From The NYS Labor Dept, About Unemployment Claims

ALBANY, NY – During today’s press briefing with Governor Andrew Cuomo, Melissa DeRosa, a top aid to the governor, spoke on the issue of New York State residents, getting unemployment money from the Department of Labor. Melissa DeRosa answered a reporter who asked about the delays that many have experienced in getting unemployment money. DeRosa answered that last week the NYSDOL hired over 3100 new workers to help them get paperwork done. DeRosa says that before hiring the 3100 new workers, there were about 275,000 Covid-19 related claims, and this week, the department has a backlog of over 4000 applications, to catch up on.
