Village of Canisteo to Soon Have Bike Patrols

August 2, 2016

Canisteo, NY – Canisteo Police Sargent Kyle Amidon told the village board Monday night that as soon as his staff can get trained and certified bicycle patrols will be coming to the village. Amidon explained that currently only he is certified but with training from the Hornell Police Department other officers will also follow suit soon.

Also it was brought to the board’s attention that the intersection at Buffalo and Chestnut streets is unsafe due to the lack of a stop sign. After a suggestion by Amidon that the village could be liable for an accident there it was agreed upon to look into the matter further. They will be first seeking consultation from their insurance company and also from the DOT. A number of other intersections fall into this catagorie and will be looked into. Before any changes are made there will be a public hearing on the matter.

In an update on the fire district between the village of Canisteo, town of Canisteo, and Hartsville, mayor Bill Tucker said that progress has slowed due to the fact that Hartsville has had some shakeups in leadership. Also another sticking point according to Tucker is deciding which properties lay in which district and what fire company would be responsible in the event of a fire. He believes that wherever the actual house lies is what district they belong to but he still plans to seek confirmation on the matter.
