Steuben County Director of Public Safety and Emergency Services Tim Marshall says, the areas in Eastern Steuben County were hit the worst, and that includes Corning. Marshall also notes that A, Steuben County would have to have $430,486 worth of damage from the recent storms, and B, the whole state would have to have undergone $37 million dollars worth of storm damage, for Steuben County, to get any FEMA funding.
“Many of our Towns and Villages on the eastern side of the county including the City of Corning were hit hard by the storm, but unlike a flood where there is damage to public infrastructure such as roads and bridges there really is not that much damage, Marshall says. “Much of the cost is associated with debris clearance and overtime from the storm.” Steuben County municipalities would have to reach a Federal threshold of $430,486 in order to qualify.” Marshall says, “The big question is if there is enough damage to reach this federal threshold.” He also said “In addition, the whole state has to reach a threshold of over $37 Million dollars to receive a Federal Disaster Declaration, so all this depends on if the county and state can reach those requirements,” Marshall said.
