FROM SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER: “Because Speaker Johnson sent them home: The House hasn’t held a vote now for eighteen days. Speaker Johnson is CAUSING—and NOT INTERESTED IN ENDING—the shutdown.”
FROM SENATOR KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND: “Members of Congress should feel the same strain that our federal workers & service members face during a government shutdown. i‘m not taking a paycheck during the shutdown, & I’m pushing for legislation to make sure no member gets paid until we reopen the government.”
FROM CONGRESSMAN NICK LANGWORTHY: “There are sweeping national implications of his partisan games, but right here in his home state of New York, families, small businesses, seniors and millions of hardworking taxpayers are being affected.
$1.2 billion lost each week in economic activity
2,600 New Yorkers out of work after one month
115,000 federal workers furloughed or unpaid
3 million SNAP recipients (1.1M children) at risk
438,000 mothers & children losing WIC nutrition support
$140 million SBA loans frozen each month
$468 million in federal contracts delayed monthly
FROM CONGRESSWOMAN CLAUDIA TENNEY: “Economic estimates show the shutdown will cost New York over $1.2 billion per month, stalling wages, halting loans, and threatening essential services that working families rely on. Thousands of federal employees across the state are being furloughed or forced to work without pay, while small businesses face delays in SBA loans and federal contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars; delays that ripple through local communities, builders, and suppliers.
“Instead of protecting New York’s economy, Democrats are keeping it hostage, forcing working families, seniors, and small businesses to pay the price for their inaction,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. “Every month this shutdown continues, New York’s working families lose more than a billion dollars in productivity because Democrats refuse to govern responsibly. Nearly three million New Yorkers who rely on programs like SNAP and WIC, are facing uncertainty, while small businesses lose critical access to SBA loans and federal contracts,” continued Congresswoman Tenney. “Democrats’ political theater is punishing working families. It’s time for Democrats to end this reckless shutdown and join House Republicans in reopening the government.”
