BATH, NY – Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler tells us, that county departments are working diligently, on developing the county budget for next year. “But this is all, kind of in the shadow, of the actions of the governor and the state legislature in the last state budget, where they intercepted medicaid funds that were meant for reimbursement for counties,” Wheeler said. “So, the Steuben County Budget is going to start at least, at $2,000,000 in the hole. Luckily, through sound fiscal management of the county legislature, we’re going to be able to weather that storm without impacting the taxpayers much, but it involves us getting a little more creative, however, this is added pressure, going into 2024,” Wheeler stated.
