William F. Vance, Addison

Addison, NY – William F. Vance, 59, of 1909 County Route 5, passed away Saturday (March 1, 2014) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

Born in North Hornell, July 29, 1954, the son of Eugene and Norma Green Vance, he had
resided in Canisteo during his early life and had made his home in Addison since 1989. He had attended Canisteo Central School and the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo during his youth.

Will had been employed as a nurses aide at Founders Pavilion, as an orderly at the former Bethesda Community Hospital in North Hornell, as well as a maintenance department worker at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, Last month Will was recognized by Guthrie Health for his 25 years of employment at Corning Hospital. He had served as a nurses aide and most recently in the communications department at the hospital. He was a former member of the Canisteo Fire Department and Ambulance Corp, as well as the Tuscarora Fire Department and Ambulance Corp. Will was an EMT and a long time CPR Instructor.

He was predeceased by his parents in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Melody Bump Vance to whom he was married May 24, 1986, his daughter, Jessica (Aaron Cummings) Vance of Mansfield, PA, and his son, Neil Vance of Addison, his siblings, Eugene (Doreen) Vance of Hornell, Dale Vance of Hornell, Robert Vance of Hornell, Joanne (Joel) Taylor of Canisteo, Arlene (David) Sutfin of Hornell, Cyndi (Jeff) Vanskiver of Washington State, John Michael (Melody) Kopetz of Virginia, Carole Vance Bliss of Hornell and William (Faith) DeMarr of Hornell, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 1 PM until 4 PM and 6 PM until 8 PM, at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 37 Greenwood Street, Canisteo on Wednesday at 1:00 PM, Rev. Gerald Smith officiating.
