ARKPORT-William T. Tierney, 71, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning (July 11, 2017) at his home on State Route 36.
Born in Hornell on April 28, 1946, he was a son of the late James and Rose (Skebey) Tierney. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by four brothers, Daniel, Michael, Jack and Rev. James Tierney.
A lifelong resident of the Hornell and Arkport area, Bill was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School, class of 1965.
He was a member of the Sprinkler Fitters Local Union No. 669 and began his employment with Grinnell Fire Protection in Rochester and at the same time performed a correspondence course with Penn State University. After working with several fire protection companies, he became employed with Davis-Ulmer Sprinkler Co. in Corning and retired in 2002.
Bill was a member of the Arkport Fire Dept. and also belonged to several 4-Wheeler Clubs. He was busy all the time and enjoyed tinkering in his garage and working with his graphic arts business making signs and t-shirts. Before and during retirement, Billy and Margie made several trips to Disney World. Billy loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids; he liked playing with them and their remote-controlled cars and would often be considered by his family to be a “bigger kid” then they are. Billy was also known as a jokester and enjoyed playing practical jokes and kidding with everyone.
His loving family includes his wife of 49 years, the former Marjorie “Margie” Clark, who he married on April 19, 1968 at the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell; his son, Daniel (Carrie) Tierney of Almond; his two grandchildren, Corbin and Sullivan, who affectionately called him “Papa”; his sister, Mary Ann (Terry) Fennelly of Canandaigua; his two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Tierney of Hornell and Marilyn (George) Padden of Hornell and Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. In Hornell is honored to serve the family of William T. Tierney.
To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours. A private prayer service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
