Wind Turbine Fire

March 29, 2023

GREENWOOD, NY – The Hornell Sun reported yesterday, that there was a wind turbine fire in Steuben County. According to the HornellSun.com, the crews could only put out the debris as it fell, as they could not easily reach the top of the wind turbine, where the fire was.

Steuben County Emergency Services Director Tim Marshall says that Greenwood, Rexville and West Union fire departments worked on putting out a Wind turbine fire off of Cemetery Hill Road in West Union yesterday. According to Marshall, after several hours, the fire fighters turned things over to the wind company which was Eight Point Wind. Marshall also says that the fire was at the top of the turbine, and that there is no danger to the public.

We also received an email with a photo from a listener, which confirmed the Hornell Sun’s story.
