FROM HORNELL CITY HALL: The City of Hornell Yard Waste Facility will be temporarily closed beginning Friday, September 11 through Friday, September 25, 2026, to allow the City to complete a series of improvements to the facility. The Yard Waste Facility is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The temporary closure is necessary to allow City crews and contractors to safely and efficiently complete several projects throughout the facility, including:
• A complete cleanout of the facility
• Leveling and grading of the site
• Drainage improvements
• Renovations to the storage bays
• Milling and paving of Disposal Lane
Expanded Yard Waste Pickup During Closure
The City recognizes that closing the Yard Waste Facility for two weeks will create an inconvenience for residents, particularly during a time of year when yard cleanup and disposal needs remain high. To help minimize that inconvenience, the Department of Public Works will expand its brush and yard waste pickup service to six days a week, Monday through Saturday, for the entire duration of the facility closure.
Important: Residents with leaves and grass clippings should bag them and place the bags at the curb for pickup.
Residents who need yard waste pickup during the closure may call City Hall at 607-324-7421 to arrange for collection by City crews.
“We understand that residents rely on the Yard Waste Facility and that a two-week closure will be inconvenient,” said Mayor John Buckley. “That’s why we’re taking steps to make sure residents continue to have a convenient option for disposing of their yard waste while the work is underway. By expanding our pickup service to six days a week, Monday through Saturday, we can accommodate residents while also allowing the improvements at the facility to be completed safely and efficiently.”

This work will address several areas at once, from drainage and grading to the condition of Disposal Lane, and will leave us with a cleaner, safer and more functional facility for our residents moving forward.”
Residents are asked to plan accordingly and, if possible, complete any anticipated yard waste disposal prior to the closure. No yard waste will be accepted at the facility while it is closed.
Residents who need yard waste pickup during the closure may call City Hall at 607-324-7421. Pickup will be available Monday through Saturday throughout the closure.
