Canisteo Man Facing Illegal Weapons Charges

CANISTEO, NY – State Troopers have charged a Canisteo man with multiple weapons related offenses. Troopers say Joseph Carter, 23, was found to be in possession of a rifle and two illegally possessed daggers. Carter was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 3rd degree (class “D” felonies) and one (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 4th degree (class “A” misdemeanor). Troopers and members of the Canisteo Police Dept. accompanied the Steuben Co. Probation Dept. to Carter’s residence, after information was developed indicating that Carter was in possession of the aforementioned weapons.

Officials say that Carter was on probation due to a previous conviction for Burglary, 3rd. Carter was arraigned in the Village of Canisteo Court and remanded to the Steuben Co. Jail in lieu of $50,000.00 cash bail/$100,000.00 property bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court at a later date.
