Jacqueline “Jackie” France Dennis, of Hornell

HORNELL-Jacqueline “Jackie” France Dennis,72, of 27 Ransom Street, died Tuesday morning (May 10, 2016) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on August 26, 1943, she was the daughter of George & Congetta (LaFaro) France.

Jackie grew up in Hornell and was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (Class of 1963). In 1978 she graduated from Monroe Community College with an administrative degree and a nursing degree.

Residing in Rochester for about 27 years, Jackie had been employed as a registered nurse at St. Ann’s Nursing Facility for many years and later worked as a night nurse at the Henrietta County Jail. She later served as Nursing Supervisor at the Warsaw Hospital.

Returning to Hornell about 14 years ago, Jackie was employed as a Registered Nurse at a local Nursing Home and later in the “Grandmother Program” in the Hornell School System.

Jackie was an avid bingo player and enjoyed serving as a “caller” during the bingo games at the Hornell VFW. She had a deep appreciation of butterflies and collected anything associated with butterflies, such as jewelry, ornaments, decorations, clothing, flags, and hair accents. All-in-all she had collected thousands of butterfly artifacts during her fifty-plus years of collecting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Dennis and also by her sister, Elizabeth Vigneri.

Surviving are 1 daughter, Elia (Anthony) Santos of Acworth, GA; 1 son, George (Rachel) Dennis of Rochester; 6 grandchildren, Angela Marie (Paul Parker) DiFrancesca, Gabriella (Corey) Carnes, Ashley Dwyer, Serena Dennis, Rebecca Dennis, Anthony Dennis and; 5 great-grandchildren, Conner, Carmelo, McKenzie, Rosalina & Skyler; many nieces & nephews.

The family of Jacqueline France “Jackie” Dennis will receive friends on Monday 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY, where a Memorial Service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.

Jackie’s family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name be made to St. Ann’s Academy, PO Box 446, Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
