ALFRED, NY – A possible name change for the Alfred University Saxons, might be in the works. Alfred University officials have been doing polls and issuing surveys, and have had group discussions about the team moniker, team name, the Saxons.
The university wants to know if how Alfred students and staff, feel about the word “Saxons”. Sources tell us that those opposed to keeping the name Saxons, say the word has had the effect of frightening some students, who connect the word Saxon to the white supremecist movement. Supporters of keeping the team name maintain, that the word Saxon, in this case, goes back to before the middle ages, the times of King Alfred, who was known for promoting education among the English people.
