Allard: A Deputy Was Choked/Attacked

Sheriff Allard reports that on August 10, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Kris E. Calkins, age 50, of Parker Road, Campbell, following an alleged attack on a deputy who was serving as a peacekeeper. It is alleged that Calkins intentionally attacked, choked and injured the deputy as the deputy was serving as a peacekeeper on Parker Road in Campbell. (Peacekeeping duties, are when deputies accompany a person into a home, to get their property and belongings, in a home where a restraining order has been filed against a resident).

Calkins was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a class D Felony, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree. Calkins was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released. The deputy was treated by EMS at the scene.
