Arkport Mayor Doorley: We’ve Got To Stop Speeding Drivers, As Well As Pass A Ban On Solar Farms

October 21, 2026

What to do about drivers speeding in Arkport? Village Mayor Carson Doorley says, it’s happening a lot on West Avenue, near the traffic light and right down the street from Arkport Central School. “There is a ton of speeding going on, on West Avenue,” Doorley tells WYSL/WLEA News. “We had one driver going 138 miles per hour back in June. Recently someone was going 68 miles an hour while at the traffic light. This is a problem that we cannot just let go unaddressed. So my first thought is that I’m going to reach out to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department on this issue,” Doorley explained.

In other Arkport news, Doorley is working to pass a ban on solar panels and data centers there. The Arkport mayor seems most concerned about the issue of solar. “In Canaseraga, you see these giant solar projects have taken over a lot of the farm land. Arkport is a right to farm community and I fully believe in keeping it that way,” said Doorley. There will be a public hearing about these proposed bans on November 17 at 630pm, at Arkport Village hall.
