Canisteo-Greenwood Teachers Receive Elite Certification

November 14, 2016

CANISTEO, NY – Two Canisteo-Greenwood teachers received an elite honor recently. Davette Carpenter & Amy Smith were awarded the title of Master Teachers in the field of Science recently after completing numerous hours of classroom training and field work. To be eligible for this program, you must be a certified NYS public secondary school teacher with 4 years of experience teaching STEM subjects. As program participants, Master Teachers make a commitment to engage in professional development (Pedogogy) work in addition to their regular school responsibilities. Master Teachers meet regularly (evenings and weekends) to participate in activities that lead to individual and collective professional growth of their students.

The board voted unanimously to adopt a ski program for Elementary and Middle school students. “To my knowledge, the district has never had one in the past and this would be a neat opportunity for the kids of this age,” said Superintendent Jeremy Palotti. The board will be searching for chaperones and the program will be implemented as soon as January. The elementary/middle school program will ski at Swain while the High School ski club currently ski’s at Bristol.

Also the TST Boces audit presentation was given and the only recommendation was to revisit reserve accounts as old as 10 years and designate what they were originally for. Numerous accounts previously created that have not had any activity need to be labeled. These accounts, totaling in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, could possibly end up in the general fund. The board is hopeful that all accounts will have a designation by December 2017.
