Canisteo Village News

November 6th, 2017

CANISTEO, NY – The village of Canisteo held their monthly board meeting Monday evening and a number of issues were discussed.

The village passed a resolution allowing them to submit unpaid taxes to the county for re-levy in January 2018. There are currently 104 unpaid accounts equaling $89,125 with penalties.

Also, in discussing old business, the request to change a parking sign on Depot Street from 2 hours to 15 minutes was revisited. After advice from Police Chief Kyle Amidon, no action will be taken until the DOT is consulted and the proper procedure is reviewed.

The Village is also preparing for the upcoming elections slated for March 20th, 2018. Positions in the village to be filled are two Trustees and one Justice. This information will be made public and provided to the county. Polling locations will again be at the Town Hall with hours set from noon to 9pm.

The Mayor also said that there is a new app available for mobile phones called Ready Steuben. The Steuben County Emergency Services Mobile app is designed to keep residents updated on any emergency taking place in the county and according to Recktenwald it also has some good information on it.

Also Pamela Aini has turned in her letter of resignation as court clerk effective December 31, 2017.

“Christmas in the Village” will be taking place on Saturday, November 25th. The beautification committee will be requesting volunteers to help decorate for the holidays on Saturday, November 18th at 9:30am.

And finally it was announced village website is up and running. According to the Mayor it still needs some work but if interested you can visit it at www.villageofcanisteo.com.
