From Congresswoman Tenney:
Canandaigua, New York – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today blasted, “Term Limits Action,” a dark money Washington, DC Political Action Committee (PAC) that is spreading misleading claims regarding her well-established position in support of term limits.
Tenney is a longtime supporter of term limits. As a member of the New York State Assembly, one of her first actions was to introduce legislation to limit the terms of legislators in state government. In Congress, she has consistently sponsored and supported term limits legislation.
Despite Tenney’s clear track record of supporting a range of term limits bills in Congress, Term Limits Action launched a series of television ads that deliberately mischaracterize her position. Tenney, who was elected to represent the 24th Congressional District in 2022, with 66% of the vote, is a cosponsor of H.J.Res 11, which Term Limits Action also supports. However, the organization makes a living promoting H.J.Res. 11 and therefore opposes all other reasonable term limits legislation, even those proposals that have broad support amongst voters.
“The real issue here is that Term Limits Action masquerades as a pro-term limits group, but actually opposes a range of commonsense term limits proposals in Congress. They are on the wrong side of this issue, but I will not be deterred by their misleading inside-the-beltway smears. I stand on the side of the voters who sent me to Washington. Unlike Term Limits Action, I will continue to champion term limits proposals in Congress to send career politicians packing,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “We need to end Washington’s politician-for-life syndrome and retire career politicians. When it comes to our fight for term limits, we need more people in the trenches and ideas up for consideration, now fewer. The backers of Term Limits Action aren’t interested in genuine reform or open dialogue. Their goal sadly is to enrich themselves by advancing a narrow agenda and leveling false attacks against anyone with the courage to question it or stand up for what’s right.
“I have always spoken truth to power and fought for what’s right,” Tenney continued. “I will not be bullied by special interests like Term Limits Action, nor will I do their bidding. My pledge to the voters is the same now as it was the first day I ran: I will vote for any term limits bill that is considered. Don’t believe the swamp-funded commercials that distort my record.”
