July 23, 2021

The Hornell Dodgers were tripped up twice by Mansfield on Thursday afternoon. The Destroyers defeated the Dodgers 10-2 and 8-2.

The Destroyers scored a pair of runs in the 2nd to grab the lead in the opener. Hornell answered back in the 3rd when Matt Staker (Webster) hit a sac fly that scored Levi Hall (Webster). Hall had led off with a single and went to third when Noah Fasso (Hudson Valley CC) hit a double.

The Dodgers couldn’t get any closer and the Destroyers added to their lead with four in the 5th and two more in the 6th. Aaron Mann (Drury) hit a sac fly in the 6th to plate Staker for the Dodgers. Mansfield added a pair of insurance runs in the 7th.

Hall was the lone Dodger with multiple hits finishing 2 for 2.

Mansfield scored five in the 1st and never looked back in the nightcap. Matteo Avallone (Alfred State) got the Dodgers on the board in the 3rd when he doubled home Mann. Hornell cut it to 5-2 in the 5th when McDonald hit a RBI double that scored Jordyn Smith (Grambling).

The Dodgers stranded a pair in the 5th and never could get any closer to Mansfield. The Destroyers added three insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th.

McDonald collected two of the Dodgers four hits. He was 2 for 3 with a RBI.

Hornell (26-12-1) travels to Houghton on Friday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader with the Genesee Rapids.
