Doris V. Zeliff, of Hornell

HORNELL-Doris V. Zeliff, 84, of Frank St., passed away peacefully Thursday morning (June 5, 2014) at her daughter’s home in Powhatan, Va.

Born in Prattsburgh on January 14, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James and Rita Hoose Crean. On October 6, 1956 she was married at St. Patrick’s Church in Prattsburgh to Richard Zeliff, who predeceased her in 1988 after 32 years of marriage.

A graduate of Franklin Academy in Prattsburgh, Doris also attended the former Hornell Business School.

She has resided in Hornell since 1956 and was employed by the former N.Y. Electric, The Evening Tribune and as a bookkeeper for the former Big Elms Restaurant as well as C.L. Wellington Inc. in Hornell before retiring.

Doris was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. She was also a member of the former St. Ann’s School Mothers Club and especially loved to spend time playing cards.

Her loving family includes her two daughters, Cheryl (Brian) Sandusky of Midlothian, Va. and Lisa Hald (Jason Onoratio and son, Bryson) of Powhatan, Va.; her seven grandchildren, Connor, Evan, Grant, Noah Domroes, Hannah, Henry and Ben Hald; her five step-grandchildren, Justin, Kelli, Cameron, Connor and Gunnar Sandusky; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Flaitz of Hornell; also her nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m.Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
